Digital Imaging I>

Selected projects are described below. They may not be used in all classes. Also minor updates and changes may be made during the semester.

Integrating 1: This project in DI 1 emphasizes image size and resolution, image editing, selections and layers. The students are to make an imaginary character by taking several elements from an image and constructing an new "thing". Here is pdf which describes the project: PDF

Integrating 2: This project emphasizes using masks (Quick, Channel, Layer, Clipping and learning "non-destructive" editing techniques to include "Adjustment Layers". The students are to create a visual pun. See attached PDF.

Integrating 3: This project emphasizes the use of type and the pen tool to create a logo/monogram called "Word Play". Type formatting, Pen and vector shapes are emphasized in this lesson. PDF

Movie Poster: This project is a culminating project that makes use of all the tools introduced through most of the semester to include clipping masks, layer masks, adjustment layers, and pen tool. The students will design a movie poster and re-purpose it for a black and white newsprint ad and a web splash screen. Attached is PDF that describes this project.

Integrating 4: This final project provides an opportunity to try out special effects with filters, blending modes and painting. One image is used to create 4 variations with the use of special effects. PDF

Digital Imaging II>

Project I: Student will take a snapshot of themselves (or family, friend) that requires cleaning up, adjusting tones and replace backgrounds. In addition the photo will be enhanced to look like a studio portrait.

Exercise 1: Experiment with different Type formatting and special effects possible in Photoshp.

Magazine Cover Project: Students are to create a composite illustration for a magazine cover. The composite should follow a theme that is probable for magazine selected. The illustration will be set up at the size of the real magazine cover of selected magazine template. The banner will be traced with a pen or type adjusted to match. However, the composition should be able to stand alone without the banner. The pen tool, vector paths, advance masking techniques and color correction are emphasized.

Project 2: Create a realistic composite of a scene. Start with a background scene and add elements to the scene, scaling and transforming elements to fit the correct size. Adjust for color and tonal balance.

Exercise 2: Extra practice and experiments with painting, brush effects, blend modes and filters.
