Selected projects are described below. They may not be used in all classes. Also minor updates and changes may be made during the semester.

Integrating 1: This is a "mini-project" at the beginning of DI 1 that emphasizes image size and resolution, image editing, selections and layers. The students are to make an imaginary character by taking several elements from an image and constructing an new "thing". Here is pdf which describes the project: PDF

Integrating 2: This is a "mini-project" in DI 1 that emphasizes using masks (Quick, Channel, Layer, and learning "non-destructive" editing techniques. The students are to create a visual pun such as "Night Mare". Consider what would a "night mare" look like? See attached PDF.

Integrating 3: This "mini-project" for DI 1 students, emphasizes the use of type and the pen tool to create a logo/monogram called "Word Play". Type formatting, Pen and vector shapes are emphasized in this lesson. PDF

Movie Poster: This project is a culminating project that makes use of all the tools introduced through most of the semester to include clipping masks, layer masks, adjustment layers, and pen tool. The students will design a movie poster and re-purpose it for a black and white newsprint ad and a web splash screen. Attached is PDF that describes this project.

Integrating 4: This "mini-project" provides an opportunity to try out special effects with filters, blending modes and painting. One image is used to create 4 variations with the use of special effects. This is newer project also started in Fall 07. PDF

Mini Project 2: Create a realistic composite or a face or a scene. Take eyes, ears, noses, mouths, hair from other photos and use these pieces to replace on another face. Blend elements together to create a realistic 'new face" portrait. Or start with a scene in which elements are added to it. PDF

Mini Project 3: Create a type collage using type, the pen and vector shapes. PDF

Mini Project 4: Extra practice and experiments with painting, brush effects, blend modes and filters. PDF

Magazine Cover Project: Students are to create a composition that follows a theme that is probable for the magazine cover in question such as a sport activity for "Sports Illustrated" magazine. Students are to include magazine banner and may add other elements such as bar codes and mailing labels to make it look like a real cover. The basic composition should be able to stand alone without these additional elements. The pen tool, vector paths, advance masking techniques and color correction are emphasized. See attached PDF for details.
