My professional life began as an art teacher in the K-12 schools. Over the years, I have taught at all levels of education. During the intermediate years I received my Master's degree in art education and curriculum followed by addtional administration, supervision and technical courses beyond my masters. Intermittedly I did freelance graphics outside my teaching duties. For 10 years I was an art supervisor in a school district. For 5 years I had my own graphics consulting and computer training business: Pauler and Associates, Inc.
My involvement with computers began in the early 80s. My interest was two fold. First to use software to aid with instruction such as teaching demonstrations and second to use it to create classroom documents and graphics. I used a Vic 20 and early Apple's transitioning to the Macintosh when it came out in 1984. This lead me to teaching early versions of computer graphics courses at the college level at Washburn University at Topeka and University of Texas.
During the mid and late 80s, I worked under contract with Apple's Education Program. I started consulting with K-12 schools in the central Texas region and later with institutions of higher education. I was fortunate to be involved with the installation of the first computers used in the art departments at area universities from the late 80s to early 90s. Contracts ended in 1993 at which time I began freelance consulting and training for individuals and small business. I focused on coaching individuals with general productivity and graphics software applications.
In 1994 I started teaching courses part time in the Digital Publishing and Graphics Technology Department (formerly Printing) which has now merged with Visual Communication at Austin Community College. I began by teaching an Electronic Publishing I (Digital Publishing) and Digital Imaging courses. In the Fall 2000 I also taught a Web class using Macromedia Dreamweaver followed by a web class using Adobe GoLive in the fall of 2001 and 2002. Beginning in 1999 I became employed full time at Austin Community College and have continued to teach primarily Digital Imaging I and II courses. In 2003 I became section leader over the Digital Imaging classes in Visual Communication Design.
