Value Statement

Austin Community College’s goal is to move students who need developmental education through the system as quickly as possible, once they master the skills at each level.

Administrative Rule

Unless otherwise exempt by administrative rules or the statute and guidelines of the State of Texas, Austin Community College refers students to developmental education on a mandatory basis whose state approved assessment test results indicate that developmental education is necessary to improve their skills in any area tested.  Mandatory placement assures that students are appropriately placed in courses that remediate identified skill deficiencies.  The mandatory placement requirement shall be fulfilled for reading and/or writing according to Rule 4.04.006 and for math according to Rule 4.04.005

Developmental Education courses must be available at the same campus at which students would otherwise attend class and include, where instructionally sound, the availability of classes through alternative instructional delivery methods.

In addition, tutoring in all three developmental areas will be offered free of charge in campus learning labs as well as other services such as skill development workshops as required by administrative rules.
